Stars at the top of their game, Stephen Curry and Lionel Messi have
more in common than you might think. Yes, one dominates the hardwood
primarily with the use of his hands and wrist-flicks, while the other
dazzles on the pitch and annihilates his opponents with one of the
quickest and deftest pairs of feet you’ll ever see. But take a look at
the numbers and you’ll start to see some similarities.
Both stars led their respective squads to the most highly sought team
accomplishment in their sport last season. Both continue to be larger
than life, despite their seemingly diminutive physical statures. Both
are deadly from almost anywhere on their respective playing surfaces.
And, both are without a doubt the two most Vine-able athletes in the
history of…well, Vine.
Perhaps this is why the two dynamos share a social connection as
well. The Warriors’ No. 30 recently sent Messi an Instagram video,
congratulating perhaps the most popular soccer player in the world on
his recent passing of
30 million followers on the platform.
If you’ve ever seen them play, you know they are both incredibly
gracious when it comes to accepting what has become a countless, endless
supply of awards and accolades. Considering how frequently they have to
practice, that really should come as no surprise. And thus, it was not a
surprise when Messi responded to Curry with an Instagram post of his
own:
Clearly, Messi doesn’t lack for a sense of humor, as Curry has a bit
of a way to go to reach Messi’s jersey number in millions of followers
(he’s currently just over 6 million). However, considering his penchant
for captivating audiences around the globe, 10 million shouldn’t be out
of Steph’s reach for long.
Instagram followers aside, it’s pretty fun to see two of the most
amazing athletes in the world connecting through a platform that didn’t
even exist when they began their respective paths to their current
revered states.
It’s too bad Messi can’t use his hands, nor Curry use his feet,
in their frequent accomplishments of the impossible. Oh well, guess
we’ll just have to wait for Messi’s visit to Oracle to see who truly is
the world’s most Vine-able star.
